Hexas Arcanum Game
Reconceptualizing a Classic
After brainstorming through developmental exercises, I decided that the base game I would start the redesign with would be Texas Hold'em and add mechanical powers to the game. I chose to explore a word association exercise that connected Texas Hold'em to Power which resulted in the concept of a narrative storytelling game where urban fantasy characters wage battle for power in a storytelling narrative using a three act structure and moved forward through the betting phases. Once I had teh concept I created mood boards to assist in developing characters and city locations.
Game Mat Development
I decided to base the play mat on the urban dynamic of the genre and sketched ideas, created a mood board that combined the characters and themes previously decided on and used golden angles to block out and highlight card and betting placement. Afterwards I added detail, shading, and lighting layers as I developled the mat.
